Seek Foundation recently organized a successful Yoga Day event at Pallikaranai Middle School, Chennai, where 150 students participated in a rejuvenating yoga session. The event aimed to instill the importance of yoga and physical activity as a routine practice among students.

 

Led by yoga instructor Ms. Ananthi and assisted by Seek Foundation staff members Ms. Jaya and Ms. Bhagiya, the session highlighted the numerous health benefits of yoga. Students learned how regular yoga practice can enhance flexibility, improve concentration, and promote overall well-being.

 

The event emphasized making physical activity a daily routine, helping students understand the long-term advantages of a healthy lifestyle. Inspiring Youth for a Greener Tomorrow: Seed Ball Planting Event at Sriyam Lake

On June 22, 2024, Seek Foundation, in association with St. Britto’s Academy, Velachery, successfully organized a seed ball planting program at Sriyam Lake, Thiruvidanthai. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 35 students from St. Britto’s Academy, including Scouts and Guides, under the guidance of Mrs. Joyce, Raji, Jayalakshmi, and Mr.Mukesh.

 

Mr. Nithin, the Project Manager of the Environmental Foundation of India, played a crucial role in helping the students plant 100 seed balls around the lake. This hands-on experience taught the students the importance of environmental conservation and the benefits of seed ball planting as a fast and efficient method of reforestation.

 

Seed balls are a unique way to ensure seeds are protected from drying out in the sun and being eaten by birds. This method enhances the chances of germination and promotes rapid forestation, making it a vital tool in environmental preservation.

 

The event not only fostered environmental awareness among the students but also encouraged them to take active steps towards creating a greener future. Seek Foundation is proud to have inspired the next generation of environmental stewards through this impactful initiative.

Seek Foundation’s Initiative: Enhancing Tribal Livelihood in Nilgiri district

Seek Foundation, a dedicated NGO focusing on women empowerment and child development, has embarked on a new project aimed at improving the livelihood of tribal communities in Nilgiri district. Our staff visited the villages of Gudalur, Vadavayal, and Semmanarai, engaging with the local Badaga, Kota,Bania and Toda tribes. This visit is to identify the living condition and the status of their current livelihood.

After visiting the villages, Seek Foundation has partnered with Nilgiri Adivasi Welfare Association (NAWA), to devise a comprehensive plan targeting five key areas to enhance tribal livelihoods:

  • Tribal Health: Initiatives to address Sickle Cell Anemia and other health issues.
  • Housing: Improving living conditions through sustainable housing projects.
  • Education: Providing access to quality education for tribal children.
  • Agriculture: Supporting sustainable agricultural practices to ensure food security.
  • Skill Development: Offering skill training programs to empower tribal members and improve their economic prospects.

Seek Foundation’s long-term commitment aims to create sustainable change and uplift the tribal communities of Nilgiri and Kothagiri. Through this project, we strive to ensure better health, education, and economic stability, fostering a brighter future for these indigenous groups.

Annual Internal Auditing: Enhancing Operational Excellence at Seek Foundation Centres

At Seek Foundation, it is our tradition to conduct an annual Internal Audit at the end of each financial year. This practice involves visits to all Seek Edu Centres and Seek Tuition Centres by our dedicated committee members. With over 10 centres focused on tailoring and tuition, this audit is essential for enhancing the operational functionality and ensuring our centres meet our high standards.

 

Seek Foundation is committed to women empowerment and child development, our primary objectives. This year, our committee has introduced new skill-building activities for women, including plastic basket making and coconut scrub making. Additionally, we have incorporated skill training programs for children to foster their development.

 

These initiatives aim to provide women with opportunities to gain new skills and improve their livelihoods, while also equipping children with essential life skills. Through our continuous efforts and annual audits, Seek Foundation strives to create a supportive and empowering environment for all members of our community.

Celebrating the Success of Women in Tailoring

Seek Foundation is proud to announce the graduation of 90 students from our tailoring course, which ran from August 2023 to January 2024. The students, hailing from the villages of Marutham, Vayalur, Visur, and Edamachi, have successfully completed a rigorous training program designed to empower women and foster entrepreneurship.

 

The curriculum covered stitching essentials, including blouses, skirts, churidars for women, and frocks and tops for children. Each participant not only learned these skills but also demonstrated their proficiency through an examination that included a viva session. This session required students to present an album of miniature samples of their work, showcasing their dedication and mastery.

 

On April 3, 2024, all graduates were awarded course completion certificates. These certificates symbolize their hard work and readiness to start their own tailoring businesses. Seek Foundation’s initiative aims to empower women by providing them with the skills and confidence needed to become successful entrepreneurs in their communities.

A March Through Kotagiri

About 200 students, alongside notable figures such as Dr. Vimala Rani, founder of Seek Foundation, and Mr. Alwas, Secretary of NAWA, infused the streets with the spirit of knowledge and empowerment. The rally was graced by the participation of influential personalities and educators, including Dr. Thamas Ponraj, Director of VKAN-V Solutions, Ms Motcha Alanger Mary FMM Principal St.Anton’s School and Ms. Poovizhi, Principal of Victoria Armstrong Primary School.

Embracing a much-needed pause from their regular academic schedule, students from grades I through VIII took center stage in a series of competitions designed to spotlight their innate abilities and foster child development. This remarkable event, sponsored by Seek Foundation, an esteemed NGO committed to nurturing young minds, brought together approximately 150 students in a celebration of talent and perseverance.

 

 

The competitions were meticulously arranged to cater to a broad spectrum of talents, including coloring, drawing, handwriting, and a spirited outdoor running race. These activities not only provided a platform for students to exhibit their talents but also encouraged a healthy sense of competition and camaraderie among them. The palpable excitement and determination of these young competitors highlighted the importance of such events in promoting child development and uncovering hidden talents.

 

Pride and joy were evident as Mrs. Sasi, the revered Headmistress of Government Middle School, Pallikaranai, presided over the prize distribution ceremony. The event honored the outstanding achievements of the participants, with the top three talents in each category receiving well-deserved prizes. This gesture of recognition played a crucial role in boosting the confidence and morale of the students, reinforcing the value of their hard work and dedication.

Visit to Premavasam

Seek Foundation, in its ongoing commitment to serving the community, organized a special visit to PREMA VASAM, a home for mentally, physically challenged, and less fortunate children located in Gerugambakkam.

PREMA VASAM stands as a beacon of hope, providing dedicated care to a large number of special children, regardless of their caste, creed, religion, or financial background. The home aims to unlock the potentials of these children and enable them to serve others, offering essential services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and play therapy.

During the visit, students from ST. BRITTO’S MATRICULATION, Adambakkam, accompanied by their teachers, had the opportunity to engage with the children at PREMA VASAM. They distributed clothes, stationery items, and spent quality time interacting with them.

This meaningful experience left a lasting impact on the students, who gained invaluable insights into gratitude, empathy, and the importance of appreciating their own blessings, including having supportive parents and access to quality education facilities.

As the day came to a close, heartfelt hugs, goodbyes, and kisses were exchanged, leaving both the visitors and the children of PREMA VASAM with cherished memories and a renewed sense of compassion.
